Can You Use AI-Generated Songs Commercially?
Understand commercial-use permission, free and paid credits, annual certificates and platform requirements before using an AI song in a video or client project.
Commercial use depends on the permission attached to the particular song, the rights in your inputs and the destination's requirements. Paying for a tool does not by itself answer every copyright or distribution question.
This guide explains Lyrics to Song AI's product rules and links to selected official external guidance, checked on October 31, 2026. It is general information, not a legal determination about your work or a guarantee that a platform will accept it.
Four questions to keep separate
| Question | What you need to establish |
|---|---|
| Can I submit these lyrics? | Your right to use and, where necessary, adapt the input |
| Can I use this generated song commercially? | The permission recorded for that generation |
| Do I hold exclusive copyright? | Applicable law and the authorship of the relevant elements |
| Will a platform accept or monetize it? | The distributor's and platform's current requirements |
For example, permission to generate a commercial recording does not clear lyrics copied from an existing song. A certificate supplied by a generator is also not the same thing as a copyright registration.
How commercial permission works on Lyrics to Song AI
For this product, rights follow the credit funding recorded for each generation. They do not simply follow the plan displayed on your account today.
| Recorded funding | Commercial use | Site-issued certificate |
|---|---|---|
| Free credits | No; non-commercial use | No |
| Purchased monthly-plan credits | Yes | No |
| Purchased credit-pack credits | Yes | No |
| Annual-plan funding | Yes | Yes |
Use the recorded rights for the specific result when funds are combined; do not infer certificate eligibility from a current annual subscription. A later upgrade does not retroactively change an earlier result's permission. Review the pricing explanation and Terms before relying on a song for a paid project.

Storage is a different rule
Without an effective paid subscription, audio funded only by free credits is kept for 30 days from first delivery. An effective paid subscription at task acceptance, or positive purchased-credit funding for the task, gives long-term storage with no automatic expiry. Free-credit audio made during an effective paid subscription can therefore have long-term storage while remaining non-commercial.
Subscription expiry, credit expiry and audio retention are separate. Download an available file when you want your own copy; do not assume a permanent credit pack promises permanent hosting after a service ends. The Privacy Policy explains processing and retention.
Does commercial permission mean I own the copyright?
Not automatically. In its January 2025 report announcement, the U.S. Copyright Office explains that protection for AI-assisted output depends on sufficient human expressive authorship; prompting alone is not enough. That is U.S. guidance, not a universal answer for every jurisdiction or every element of a song.
Keep your original lyric drafts and meaningful edits. Distinguish the text you authored from generated composition and recorded audio. Do not promise a client exclusive rights, copyright registration or unique output merely because the generation was paid. Seek appropriate advice when a contract requires those assurances.
What about YouTube, Spotify and client work?
YouTube: permission to use the music does not guarantee monetization of your channel or video. YouTube's monetization policies also assess originality and repetitive or mass-produced content. Check the rules for your whole video and channel, including any applicable disclosure requirements.
Streaming distribution: a distributor is an additional decision-maker. DistroKid's AI music guidance requires appropriate rights and rejects infringement, unauthorized impersonation and mass-generated spam; streaming services may still reject a release. An AI generator's permission is not an acceptance letter from Spotify.
Client projects: define the intended use before generating. Record which file was delivered, the relevant permission and any limits you cannot guarantee. A paid advertising campaign, a client's background track and a personal birthday message have different practical needs. Check music, lyrics, artwork, footage and performer permissions separately.
The site provides private audio downloads, not direct distribution to those platforms or a built-in music-video workflow. Use your own editing or distribution tools as appropriate, and do not send a client a private playback URL that requires your account.
A record to keep with each release
| Keep | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Original lyrics and input permissions | Shows what you supplied and on what basis |
| Generation date and recorded funding/rights | Identifies the permission attached to that result |
| The exact downloaded file | Connects your records to the delivered audio |
| Annual certificate, when applicable | Preserves the site's generation and authorization record |
| Destination requirements checked for release | Avoids treating an old policy as current |
| Client usage agreement, if relevant | Makes the agreed scope and limitations explicit |
Keep private records privately; do not publish account or payment identifiers in a public portfolio. If a result's funding or rights are unclear, contact support before commercial release.

Frequently Asked Questions
Understand plans, credits, storage, and available features.
Can I purchase a plan or credit pack now?+
Choose a plan or credit pack, sign in and continue to Account. Review the full price, credit expiry, renewal and refund terms, then choose an available payment channel. Access and credits are granted after payment is verified.
How do free credits work?+
Eligible new accounts on a device that has not claimed a signup grant receive 90 one-time signup credits with no fixed expiry. Lyrics cost 1 credit and standard songs cost 30 credits, from the same balance. Switching accounts on the same device does not grant more free credits. Daily check-in rewards are no longer available. Existing unused, unexpired free generations convert to 30 credits each, keeping their expiry. Free signup credits are unavailable for access from India.
Does every generation produce two songs?+
A complete standard generation is charged only after two audio candidates are durably stored in the private workspace. If only zero or one deliverable candidate is available, the task is not charged site credits. Two playable songs are therefore the charging condition, not a guaranteed outcome of every request.
Are the billing period, credit expiry, and file storage period the same?+
No. Monthly and yearly describe how often a subscription is billed. Credit expiry determines how long unused credits can be spent. File storage determines how long an audio file remains available. Annual credits last 365 days from first grant. Audio generated during an effective paid subscription has long-term storage, including when free credits are used; these are separate rules.
When do credits expire?+
Monthly credits expire at the verified paid monthly period end. Each new annual payment grants the full annual allowance once, with 365-day validity from the first successful grant. Renewal creates a separate batch and never extends older credits. New credit packs never expire. Historical orders keep their original terms. File retention is separate.
How long are generated songs stored?+
Audio storage is fixed when a task is accepted. An effective paid subscription, even when free credits are used, or any positive amount of purchased credits used for that task, including mixed free and paid funding, gives the audio long-term storage. Without an effective paid subscription, audio funded only by free credits is kept for 30 days from first delivery. Long-term files have no automatic expiry while the account exists, subject to user deletion and account closure. Cancellation, subscription expiry, plan changes, refunds and disputes do not shorten existing file retention. Audio expiry does not delete saved lyrics, creation history or financial records. Historical files keep their recorded dates. File storage does not change commercial-use or certificate rights and does not promise hosting after the service ends.
Can I download generated songs?+
You can download available audio from your private library after signing in. Download access follows the same file availability and ownership rules as playback. Audio made without an effective paid subscription and using only free credits lasts 30 days from first delivery; long-term audio has no automatic expiry.
Which plans include commercial use?+
Commercial-use rights follow the funding recorded for each generation: free-credit generations are non-commercial; paid-credit generations allow commercial use. Only annual-plan funding provides a certificate; free, monthly and credit-pack funding do not. A later upgrade or long-term file storage does not change an existing result's rights. You must have permission to use your input; these permissions do not establish exclusive copyright or clear third-party rights.
Can I cancel in the same month I subscribe?+
Yes. You can request cancellation of auto-renewal at any time from Account. Once confirmed, it stops the next renewal; your paid access continues until the end of the period already purchased. You do not have to wait until next month to cancel. Cancellation does not automatically issue a refund.
What happens to unused credits, credit packs, and songs?+
Cancellation or a plan change keeps remaining credits at their original expiry. New credit packs never expire. New annual credits keep their 365-day validity. Credits are not cash; existing files keep their retention. A plan change charges the full new price, with no automatic proration or refund.
What happens to annual credits after cancellation?+
New annual plans grant the entire annual allowance once after confirmed payment. Canceling stops next year’s charge; the remaining batch keeps its original 365-day expiry, which can differ from paid access expiry. No monthly credits are added. Historical installment purchases continue under their original contract.
When can I request a refund?+
Request within 14 days after payment, including if some credits have been used. We review the payment and its total purchased entitlement, consumed, reserved and remaining credits and previous refunds. Annual payments use the full annual allowance. Delayed credit delivery, retries and plan changes do not restart the original payment’s window. A request is not approval.
Can I get a partial refund after using credits?+
Partial use does not prevent a request. After manual review we may approve a partial refund based on remaining entitlement or a full refund. Special cases are reviewed individually. No automatic refund is promised, and mandatory legal rights remain unaffected.
How do I request a refund, and what happens after approval?+
Open Account → Request a refund and email support@lyricstosongai.org with your site order reference, payment date, reason, and credit usage. Opening the email draft does not submit a request; send it from your email app. A refund request does not itself stop renewal or confirm approval. After approval, only the refunded order's credits and benefits are adjusted as agreed; unrelated credit packs are not removed. Already-used credits are not turned into a negative balance.
